The Killarney Coffee Cup Project

Killarney is recognised globally as Ireland’s leading tourist town with its surrounding National Park

Recent voluntary park clean-ups revealed that one of the most common forms of waste found in the Killarney National Park was single use coffee cups. Recognising the negative impacts this waste was having on the local environment, the local coffee shops collectively agreed that action was required. The Killarney Coffee Cup Project was launched on the 11 July 2023. It announced plans to make Killarney Ireland’s first single use coffee cup free town. It is estimated that it will remove over one million single use coffee cups from the town annually, or 18.5 tonnes of waste. The decision to move to a reusable takeaway system has been taken following an agreement by 25 local independent coffee shops and 21 hotels.

The local independent coffee shops and hotels will no longer offer single use coffee cups from 31 July. It is hoped that this new measure will have a visible impact on litter in the town and its surrounding environment.

The hotel is located in the heart of the national park, so very convenient for tours and walking. The room was just as you see in the photo's. Very comfortable and relaxing. Amazing facility and the service was outstanding. They accommodated some special requests and were very helpful for anything we needed. The restaurant was very nice and the food was outstanding. We would highly recommend the spa as an important part of the experience.

Walking trails and beautiful literally a few steps away. Torc waterfall a 6 minute drive. Great location to do the Ring of Kerry or a day trip to Dingle peninsula. We rearranged our trip to stay longer here. I am so appreciative of the great service and attention to detail. I cannot recommend this hotel enough, every staff member we met over the weekend were so helpful and friendly. Outstanding wait staff in the dining room too and a beautiful breakfast served each morning. The spa is one of the best I have been too, the hotel location is excellent, right across from Muckross House and Gardens and the complementary bike hire for 2 hours is a wonderful way to explore. I cannot stop talking about our break away, I really can't wait to go back.

Can't fault the hotel or staff. Everything was great. Great selection for breakfast. The rooms were spotless and cleaned daily. We needed more coffee in the room and had it within minutes. We ate in the Monks lounge, again the staff were lovely and the food was very tasty. We did avail of the spa even though we had no treatments the vitality pool was lovely and very relaxing. We were very near Muckross house and Torc waterfall. We requested a late check out and there was no problem.
